How we work

We primarily work in a preventative manner through the Mind-Body connection. We serve local people in North London who suffer from long-term physical illnesses, depression and mental health issues. There are no upper or lower age limits. We were established to work with the progeny of Holocaust survivors and predominantly still work with them now - mostly 3rd and 4th generations. We never turn anyone away and have indeed provided therapies to people from many walks of life. Currently most of our service users are from the Sephardi/Mizrahi communities.

What issues can we help with?

For over 35 years the staff and practitioners have provided one-to-one therapeutic services in:

  • Alcoholism and drugs.

  • Anger management

  • Behavioural issues

  • Eating disorders

  • Elective mutism

  • Family issues

  • Fears and anxieties

  • Gender issues

  • Lifestyle issues

  • Loss and bereavement

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Stress related issues

At present the organisation employs one full-time director; all other staff are part-time: an administrator and about 10 sessional therapists and group facilitators. There are usually 2 or 3 volunteers as well. The therapist team is multi-cultural, speaking languages which includes Hebrew, Yiddish, Urdu and Ebo and some French. In that respect we are unique.

As a new organisation we bring many years of community activities and experience to the fore, including arts & crafts, drama, making music, dance, yoga, fitness, gardening, health and wellbeing seminars as well as cultural awareness training seminars to hundreds of organisations across Britain, equalling thousands of participants.

Clinical Support and Partnerships

When a clinical assessment is required for psychological, educational or legal purposes we refer either to our Consulting Clinical Educational Psychologist or a statutory body. We also make and take referrals from the clients, their families as well as from local GPs, hospitals, clinics, private practitioners and statutory health and care agencies (CMHTs, CAMHS, 1st Steps, Hackney Arc etc).
